Stand-Alone, Additional Services & Fees
Effective as part of your cat’s grooming experience with Whiskers Retreat
Nail Clipping – £20
Included with any full groom package – Nail clip only (no groom)
Spicy Zoom Groom – £15
If your cat’s temperament is difficult during a groom there may be a surcharge for additional precaution, equipment and time that may need to be adjusted to facilitate the safest groom for your cat.
In some scenarios, the groomer may recommend rebooking the groom and provide you with the most appropriate advice on how to proceed at another date.
Minor Matting Removal – £25
This fee applies if more than four mats are found in your cat’s coat during an initial assessment. You may also wish to use this as a stand-alone service, but this may not be recommended.
Matting may not always be visible to owners but can significantly impact the grooming process. Any additional charges are always discussed and agreed upon prior to the start of any groom. The fee reflects the time, skill and care required to remove mats safely and humanely, without causing stress or injury.
Panel cut – £65
A panel cut is a clipping technique that removes fur from the underarms, belly, and groin area—spots that are often tricky for cats to manage themselves. This trim usually involves reducing the fur length quite significantly, making it an excellent choice for medium- to long-haired breeds that are prone to matting underneath or struggle to groom those harder-to-reach areas.
Moderate to Extensive Matting Removal – £65 to £85
(Half or Full Body Pelting Surcharge is £10).
Telephone consultations alone can sometimes make it difficult to fully assess the severity of matting. To provide the most accurate cost estimate, we may ask for photos and a description of your cat’s coat condition before booking.
If, during your cat’s appointment, we discover that the coat is severely pelted, a pelting surcharge will be added to the mat removal fee. This reflects the time, skill, and care required to safely and humanely remove extensive mats or pelting—without causing pain, discomfort, stress, or injury to your cat. Pelting occurs when severe matting tightens and compresses large areas of the coat into dense, hard sheets of tangled fur lying very close to the skin. Commonly affected areas include the back, spine, hind legs, and sides. This condition can be extremely painful and requires immediate professional attention.
Important note:
At Whiskers Retreat, mat removal for cats is always carried out while they are conscious (unlike veterinary procedures that may involve sedation). This means cats may move during the process, which is why it is vital that mat removal is only performed by a trained professional. Please do not attempt to cut mats out at home, as this can easily cause injury. See ‘Whiskers Retreat Matting Policy’ for more information.
Modified / Full Lion Cut – £95 to £125
A full lion clip is full body clipper work removal. Head, mane, legs and tail are left at correctly trained landmarks. The tail can be customised to be in full (if no matting or stud tail) or clipped down to achieve a pom tail.
Please note:
Modified and Full Lion styles, are generally recommended for welfare reasons only—for example, in cases of severe matting or pelting where brushing alone is no longer an option. Ideally, a cat’s coat should be maintained through regular grooming and coat care to prevent the need for clipper work. Hygiene trims with scissoring can be provided where needed (see add on’s) e.g. Mane work, but I do not trim around a cat’s face—this area is best left natural to keep your cat looking and feeling like themselves.
Styling & Trimming – £15
Includes requests such as:
- Sanitary trims
- Hygiene/genital area tidy
- Pads, mane, toe tufts
- Trousers length reduction
Please Note:
At Whiskers Retreat, styling is provided primarily for your cat’s health and hygiene, not for cosmetic purposes. I primarily focus on the welfare and comfort of each cat, tailoring services to their specific needs.
Styling or coat reduction may be recommended based on your cat’s lifestyle and coat condition, particularly for medium to long-haired breeds that may struggle with cleanliness or hygiene maintenance. We equally support most requests for scissoring work if you feel your cat’s hygiene levels are affected.
Parasite Surcharge – £15
If fleas or any other parasites are detected during grooming, the surcharge applies for treatment and sterilisation of grooming tools.
Flea Bath Treatment – £50
Includes two full wet bath treatments, spaced approx. 4 weeks apart.
This service does not replace veterinary flea treatment.
It is designed to support your cat’s existing flea control plan using gentle, cat-safe products that encourage the removal of fleas and soothe the skin. It does not provide long-term protection or prevent re-infestation. This service is only recommended for those that have had veterinary prescribed flea treatment 2 weeks prior and between your active, on-going flea treatments.
Mobile Visit Call Out Fee – £10 to £60
Commonly served areas include Southampton, Whiteley, Fareham, Portchester, Lee-on-the-Solent, Gosport, Southsea and all surrounding areas. If you are unsure whether your location is covered, or would like to be provided with the exact call-out cost in your area, please feel free to get in touch – I am happy to help.
The final confirmed call-out fee is confirmed at the time of booking and varies between each client depending on travel distance and time required.
The fee applied covers the following;
Vehicle usage and wear, Time spent travelling to and from an address, Maintenance costs for mobile service operation
No call-out fee applies, if you choose the drop off & collection service to my home address.
Please note: Final pricing will be confirmed after your cat has been assessed by the groomer.
Whiskers Retreat prices are based on several ‘cat’ factors, including:
- Size and breed
- Age
- Temperament
- Coat condition and thickness
- Grooming history
- Medical or health conditions
We always aim to recommend the most cost-effective and suitable service based on your cat’s individual needs, ensuring the best possible experience for both you and your cat.
Remember no cat is the same and every cat is treated individually, but always like family.
